Welcome to Kate's Kart!
Kate's Kart is a not-for-profit organization that supplies free books to hospitalized children to keep for their enjoyment. Our goal is to promote literacy and encourage children, and their families, to read on an ongoing basis. Kate's Kart was founded in 2008 by the Layman family in memory of their daughter, Katherine Anne Layman (affectionately known to family and friends as "Baby Kate").
In just over three years, our organization has grown to service 16 area hospitals, plus several pediatric offices. We currently have over 90 volunteers collecting, counting, sorting, labeling, stocking and distributing books.

 Sweet Memories
Every January we celebrate the inspiration of this organization, Baby Kate, who passed away four years ago this month. As each year passes, Kate's memory does not fade, but grows stronger and brighter through her legacy which has given thousands of hospitalized children and their families the simple gift of a smile.

2nd graders at Churubusco Elementary School presented us with over 150 new books! Thanks for sharing with us. It's their 3rd year to support Kate's Kart at Christmas time! Way to go Eagles!!
